Ames solar tech manufacturer to expand

AMES, IOWA (AP) -- A solar technology manufacturer plans to expand its operation in Ames in central Iowa.

Officials with PowerFilm Inc., which makes ultra-thin, flexible solar panels, say the company is preparing to build a new 80,000 square foot manufacturing plant near its original location in west Ames.

PowerFilm President Steve Martens says the expansion will allow the company to cut manufacturing costs and could produce up to 60 news jobs.
