Kirksville hires community services director

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The City of Kirksville introduced the new community services director at Monday's city council meeting.

After receiving 27 resumes for the position, officials selected Melanie Smith.

Smith, originally from Sturgeon, Missouri, replaces Steve Bell who left the position in October.

A 1998 graduate of the University of Missouri, Smith has a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

Her resume includes project officer for the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism and special events coordinator for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Smith's first day is January 5th.
