OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Even with the unstable economy, some big-name businesses are setting their sites on Ottumwa.
KTVO has learned that Sears wants to set up shop in town.
Store executives are looking for a dealer or someone to own and run the business.
Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce Director Terry McNitt is cautiously optimistic about the arrival of Sears in Ottumwa.
"Obviously the big challenges will be, is once we find a qualified dealer will be finding a good location to put the Sears store. We're looking at maybe between a 6,000 and 8,000 square foot facility and then basically all the merchandise comes in under consignment," said McNitt.
McNitt also told KTVO that Dunkin’ Donuts has contacted the Chamber office about opening up one of their franchise stores.
Neither one is a done deal at this time.
According to the Chamber Director, these potential new businesses, along with others that move to town, will help keep Ottumwa's economy thriving.
