KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The chilly weather didn't stop runners from getting up for a holiday race Saturday.
A.T. Still University and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine hosted the annual Reindeer Romp race Saturday morning in downtown Kirksville.
The Romp is a 4 mile run or 1.5 mile run/walk to raise money for the medical class of 2011. Organizers tell KTVO the Reindeer Romp is an opportunity for runners to get in a last race for the year.
“The Reindeer Romp is an event that we started doing 25 years ago with the idea we could work to get people out in the cold weather to be more active and that we could raise some money and awareness and food for the Salvation Army food drive,” said Race Director Dan Martin.
The 125 participants could get a discount on their entry fee by bringing a food donation. Martin says the Reindeer Romp usually brings in about 200 pounds of food for the Salvation Army.
