OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa city crews are ready for whatever Old Man Winters throws at them.
Public Works Superintendent Steve Edgington told KTVO that the city has 1,000 tons of salt and 2,000 tons of sand. They use a mixture of both to prevent Ottumwa’s roads from getting slippery.
Edgington said after last winter, they really needed to stock up.
“We always start out with 1,000 tons, we were down to like 200 tons. So we ordered the thousand to make sure we started out the season where we needed to be. We're able to buy another 13,000."
According to Edgington, the crew also has two new snow plows to work with this year.
