OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Many gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Ottumwa Salvation Army on Thursday.
All afternoon happy people shoveled turkey, potatoes and stuffing into their mouths.
It was all part of the Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving Feast.
Volunteers served food from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the new Salvation Army building on Second Street.
Captain Jamie Pennington told KTVO that everyone was welcome to the feast.
“We’re thankful for the community and everything the Lord provides for us and this is just a way to say thank you to the community. As well as the fact there's just a couple holidays that no one should be alone and nobody should go without and Thanksgiving is one of those days," Pennington said.
Captain Pennington also said that volunteers delivered about 350 meals to shut-ins throughout the community on Thursday.
About 150 people were served at the Salvation Army's Worship and Community Center.
