OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Ottumwa Police and Fire Departments are investigating a possible arson.

On Wednesday night, fire fighters worked for over two hours to extinguish a blaze on the old Wabash train bridge.

The fire caused a gaping hole in the structure.

The bridge was recently refurbished by volunteers, and it’s now part of the Wapello County Trails System.

On Thursday afternoon crews continued to investigate the burned bridge.

An investigator tells KTVO that they're not for sure yet whether the blaze was intentional or accidental.

Police, however, have access to surveillance video that they're using to tell who was on the bridge at the time of the fire.

Anyone walking on the trail bridge Wednesday night is asked to call the Ottumwa Police Department at 683-0661, the Ottumwa Fire Department at 683-0667, or the Iowa Arson Hotline at 1-800-532-1459.
