OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Most people haven't put up their Christmas trees yet, but one crew is ahead of schedule.

Chamber of Commerce volunteers recently set up the 35 foot tall electrical tree in Ottumwa Park as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s Holiday Nights 'N Lights.

This year, however, the tree is new and improved.

"There has always been a big green tree there, for the last ten years and there was some trouble with the cables breaking and the garland getting frayed over the years in the high wind. So this year, Holiday Nights 'N Lights along with some community members paid to refurbish that tree and so we have a brand new big green Christmas tree," said Event Organizer Pat Swanson.

Swanson told KTVO that the tree runs on LED lights, which makes it much more energy efficient.

The tree, however, isn't the only display crews were working on. Volunteers have been working since Oct. 30 to turn the park into a Winter Wonderland for the holiday season.

On Thursday, volunteers struggled with high winds to finish putting up a lighted flag.

The fourth annual light show starts Nov. 22. and runs through January 2.
