DES MOINES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey says crops are benefiting from unusually warm weather.

Northey spoke about Iowa's crops on Monday, in response to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's statistical service.

He says the warm sun and dry breeze in Iowa over the last week have helped dry out fields and allowed farmers to start getting back into the fields.

Northey says much of northern Iowa is in pretty good shape with almost all of the beans and half the corn harvested.

He says southern Iowa still has a significant amount of beans and more than three-quarters of the corn to get out of the field, but that if the weather holds up that will help.
