KIRKSVILLE, MO -- student
groups
at
A.T. Still University
is
celebrating
the
success
of
it
s
campaign
.
The
Student
A
ssociation
of M
ilitary
Osteopathic P
hysicians
and
S
urgeons
and
Theta Psi partnered with non-profit
Cell Phones for Soldiers
earlier
this
month
to
help
troops
call
home
by collecting gently-used cellular
phones
.
Collection
boxes
were
placed
on A.T.S.U.'s
campus
and
at
several
locations
around Kirksville.
In total,
about 130
phones
were
collected
bringing
in about $50 in
donations
.
This
year
's
drive
was
the
biggest
one
yet
.
"
Normally
in
the
year
's
past
we
've
gotten
only
15
cell
phones
, which
was
great
.
But
this
year
with
pushing
hard
with
the
community
,
advertising
,
and
better
exposure
we
were
able
to
collect
so
much
more
...10
times
more
than
last
year
,"
said
James Scholfield,
President
of
Student
Association
of
Military
Osteopathic Physicians
and
Surgeons.
The
donated
phones
will be
sent
to Michigan-based
Recellular
for
recycling.
The
money
raised
will be
used
to
purchase
phone
cards
for
soldiers
serving
overseas
to
help
them
make
calls
to
loved
ones
back
home
.
