BLOOMFIELD, IOWA -- Downtown Bloomfield’s future is looking bright. The city just finished up its Community Development Block Grant I-Jobs project which impacted more than 25 buildings in the square.

Now the focus has turned to the Upper Story Housing Grant which could potentially put 20 new apartments in some of the upper floors of renovated buildings on the square.

One of the goals is to bring more housing to the city.

“We hope that it will help change the face of the downtown.  Obviously the more people that you have in the downtown area and the more buildings you can create sustainability for will generate new business and restaurants and keep things active and vibrant which is what we're looking for to achieve,” said Doug Dixon, Main Street Bloomfield President.

Dixon said up to $3 million can be applied for and he hops construction can start later this year.
