KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville's Planning and Zoning Commission held a meeting Wednesday evening to discuss plans on making downtown a better place.

The main item on the agenda was the property survey for downtown property owners. The commission discussed a proposed survey along with a proposed ordinance for new construction.

Codes and Planning Director Brad Selby said the survey will be mailed out to all of downtown's property owners.

"It's a proposal of what we would like to do to regulate the construction of new buildings in the downtown area. This is a survey to ask property owners their opinion about a proposed ordinance that does regulate new construction only for downtown buildings in the city," said Selby

The survey will also include a cover letter explaining the proposed ordinance and survey for new construction.

The city's Planning and Zoning Commission's goal for the survey is to help property owners promote and improve the downtown area.

They're hoping property owners will aid in doing what the commission can to make the center of town more appealing to shoppers and visitors.

The surveys will be sent by email and/or email before the new year.
