KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Many people are wondering how their trees are holding up in the drought.

According to tree and landscaping service experts, many trees have been able to survive the drought due to high amounts of rainfall we've had in previous years.

But trees that are already unhealthy or damaged are the ones affected by the drought.

If all the tree's leaves are completely gone, it's a sign that the tree is dead and probably needs to be cut down.

When it comes to cutting down a tree, it might not be a do-it-yourself project.

"If nothing is in the way and you know how to properly operate a chain saw, you can do it yourself. However, if there are power lines, a house, cable lines or an active street is close, they should hire someone who does it for a living," said Charles Cannaday of Cannaday Tree Service.

When hiring a professional tree cutter, make sure the company has a city business license and is insured.
