WEST UNION, IOWA -- Around 11 a.m. Friday, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a black bear. Deputies located the bear half-a-mile north of North Fayette High School in West Union.

Sheriff Marty Fisher used an ATV to turn the bear back north. North Fayette schools were notified to keep students inside until the area was cleared.

Deputies then escorted the bear two miles northwest of West Union where it then continued traveling northwest into a wooded area.

Sheriff Fisher warns people not to approach the bear if you spot it. If the bear becomes a threat, contact your local authorities for assistance.
