OTTUMWA, IOWA -- It seems like when one election ends, another is just around the corner, and that was certainly the case for residents across Southeast Iowa.

Not even a month after the general election, residents in the ten counties in partnership with Indian Hills Community College voted to pass an equipment levy tax that helps fund equipment and resources for students across all ten of those counties.

"That's for student learning, so all of our programs that involve equipment, which is most of our technical programs and health occupation programs, that money goes to that," said Martha Wick, Grants Officer at Indian Hills. "It's very expensive to have those technology programs, much more so than the arts and sciences programs, so this is just a real boost to us."

Wick stressed that the college has wonderful support across the area, but as far as local tax support, gets less than any other community college in the state, so the tax was very much needed.

The measure passed by almost 75%, which Wick said is indicative of the widespread support.

Now that the tax has passed, it is good for the next ten years.
