Pot smell in motel room attracts police

KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Drugs inside a Kirksville motel lands one Northeast Missouri woman behind bars facing drug charges.

Tina Verkuilen, 41, of Livonia, is charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

According to court documents, Kirksville police were called out to Super 8 Motel in Kirksville in reference to a smell of marijuana.

When officers arrived, Verkuilen answered door and officers asked to search the room.

During the search they found a handkerchief and inside the handkerchief there were two needles, a spoon and a plastic baggie.

The contents inside the baggie field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Two burnt marijuana cigarettes were also found.

Verkuilen admitted the meth was hers and she was taken into custody. She is being held in the Adair County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
