KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- It’s now been just over one week since a man was brutally murdered in Kirksville and still authorities have yet to officially identify the victim.

Paul Potter, 49, of Kirksville has been charged in the case. He is charged with second degree murder, first degree tampering with a motor vehicle and second degree arson.

Potter is accused of stabbing the still unnamed victim, then cutting his arms off. Preliminary autopsy results showed the victim died of multiple stab wounds. Potter also is accused of setting fires to help cover up the crime.

Adair County Coroner Brian Noe told KTVO, he is awaiting results of fingerprints sent to a national database, to confirm the identity of the victim.

Potter is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday morning in Adair County Associate Circuit Court.
