New judge appointed in sex case

UNIONVILLE, MO. -- A Unionville man charged with multiple felonies has a new judge appointed to hear his case.

Adair County Circuit Judge Russell Steele has been appointed by the state supreme court to hear the case against Kenneth Shumate, 32. Shumate had asked for a change of judge in the case. Shumate also has a change of venue motion pending. Shumate is charged with twenty sex related felony counts in the case. Shumate is being held under $1 million cash only bond.

    
According to court papers, the victims were 13 and 14 at the time of the incidents. Shumate is also accused of possessing child pornography, some with children believed to be as young as 5 years old.

    
There is no future court date set for the case at this time.
