KIRKSVILLE, MO. --
A northeast Missouri man is now behind bars in connection with a report of shots fired from a gun in downtown Kirksville.

That incident happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 19, 2013 in a parking lot in the 300 block of west McPherson Street.

On Wednesday, Kirksville police arrested John Mims, 23, of Kirksville. He is charged with two felonies in the case: unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. He is being held in the Adair County Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond.

According to court papers, Kirksville police officers made contact with several individuals after they heard the sound of shots being fired from a gun on January 19.

No one was injured. Investigators found a pistol holder in a woman's car at the scene.

A .22 caliber revolver was also found on the ground near that vehicle. A witness told officers he had seen Mims retrieve the revolver from the woman's car and walk toward a physical altercation in the parking lot.

The witness said he saw Mims raise the pistol in the air and fire it after yelling something about "blood gang."

This isn't John Mims' first brush with the law.

Back in August 2012, Mims was arrested and charged in connection with a break-in and assault at a Quincy, Illinois motel.
