OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Its goal is to spur business startups in Wapello County and to provide a support system for entrepreneurs.

The business incubator would be located out at the IHCC’s North Campus on a piece of land that is currently empty.

Back in September, Indian Hills received a $750,000 federal grant to go towards the incubator.

And the final design plans for the building will be presented to the IHCC Board of Trustees for approval Monday evening.

“It's kind of a big open box right now because the concept there is since it's a mixed-use incubator, we're not exactly sure what kind of business would come in there. So it’s built to suit; we can do anything from a small office space of 10x12 to a light manufacturing of 3 or 4,000 square feet. So we'll build once we know who's going to be in there,” said Kelly Poppe-Gale, RELI Coordinator.

Poppe-Gale said people have already shown an interest in utilizing the incubator and is confident more people will when the building is complete.

“With the business incubator, I think some of the misconceptions are that it’s just free rent or cheap rent and really they still pay rent but they have access to so many more services. They have mentors available, we have – hopefully get hooked up with Angel Investor Groups so that we’re able to connect people and their businesses to investors so that they can grow their business at a faster rate than they would be able to at any place else,” said Poppe-Gale.

Poppe-Gale said ground will be broke on the building this spring and hopes it will be complete by the end of 2013.
