The stir project went underway at the PACT Center in Kirksville Thursday. It is a great program to help people be more self sufficient.

“The acronym is STIR it stands for steps toward independence and responsibility. Its 7 chapters that teach individuals with disabilities to be better self advocates and each chapter builds on the other,” said Chuck Comstock.

Some of the top graduates even come back and teach the incoming students.

“I've learned how to stand up for myself, learned how to do things on my own. I live in an apartment by myself. I don't have anybody. I only have people coming in to help me. I work in project stir and I enjoyed it. I learned a lot of different things in it,” said Kathleen Nowe
