Margaret “Peggy” (Gochnauer) Sharp
1925 – 2013

Margaret “Peggy” (Gochnauer) Sharp, 87, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away Sunday (January 20, 2013) at the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics.

The daughter of Harvey Huber and Mabel (Bachman) Gochnauer, she was born April 5, 1925 in Lyons, Kansas. On November 8, 1946, Peggy was united in marriage to Elmer P. Sharp who preceded her in death on July 8, 1983.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jackie Sue in infancy; one sister, Jean Lewis; two brothers, Mike and John Gochnauer and a son-in-law, David Pope.

Peggy is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra Sharp of Novinger, MO, Vicky and Ralph Steele of Novinger, MO and Kitty and Johnnie Adams of Hurdland, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Connie Gochnauer of Mojave, CA; four grandchildren, Dawn Steele, Shane Pope, Louis Pope and Charity (Pope) Stewart; twelve great-grandchildren, Anthony Pope, Bailey Pope, Raven Pope, James Connelly, Kail Shrouf, Cody Shrouf, Kerrie Pope, Chelsea Stewart, Meagan Stewart, Brieann Stewart, Aaliyah Stewart and Keegan Stewart; one great great-grandchild, Kole Pope, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Peggy received her education in Stilwell, Kansas, Kirksville public schools and graduated from Novinger High School with the Class of 1943. She then attended and received her teaching certificate from Kirksville State Teachers College. Peggy then taught in area rural schools four years. She also worked as a cook at Novinger R-I public school and as a Standardized Patient a number of years of ATSU.

Her hobbies included reading, cooking, baking cookies and traveling with her family. She loved time spent with her family and loved taking care of them.

Peggy attended and was very active at the Word Alive Family Church in Greentop, Missouri, was a member of PTA where she served as room mother and was active and devoted to the Shibley’s Point Community.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday (January 24, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Robert Gange officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cox Cemetery, near Sidney, Missouri.

Public visitation will be held Wednesday (January 23, 2013) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Frank Stewart, Ricky Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Anthony Pope, James Connelly and Blake Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Steele, Johnnie Adams, Louie Pope, Shane Pope, Randy Lewis, DeWayne Rogers, Bobby Gochnauer and Jake Blickhan.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Peggy Sharp may be made to the Cox Cemetery. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
