Victoria Marut is charged with felony stealing by deceit
KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- A northeast Missouri student charged with a felony after allegedly faking that she had cancer has pleaded not guilty.
Victoria "Tory" Marut, of Kirksville, is charged with felony stealing by deceit and forgery. She is scheduled to have a trial date set on February 4.
Marut, a Truman University student, was doing her internship at Kirksville Primary School this fall when officials allege she pretended to have terminal cancer and told teachers and staff she was undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
According to court papers, officials were able to confirm that Marut was not in treatment for cancer and had submitted forged documentation of a cancer diagnosis.
She remains free on bond.
