OTTUMWA, IOWA -- A house fire in Ottumwa has left one man homeless.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Cory Benge with the Ottumwa Fire Department, the home, located near U.S. 63 and Mary Street on Ottumwa's southeast end, caught fire Monday afternoon.
Benge says that no one was home at the time of the fire; and that when firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire is being investigated; however Benge says that it looks as if the fire could have started near the furnace.
Because of the fire, Benge says that he wants to remind everyone to have their furnace inspected to make sure that they are running clean and properly.
No firefighters were injured on Monday.
