JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI -- The Missouri Department of Conservation has collected about 1,700 tissue samples from deer harvested this fall, testing for Chronic Wasting Disease.

The focus of the testing was in northeast Missouri and so far the good news is that out of the 800 tests performed, only one adult buck has tested positive. The deer in question was harvested in northwest Macon County where CWD was previously discovered.

The conservation department did notify the hunter of the positive result and says that they will notify any other hunters if their deer also test positive for the disease.

The overall results will be shared once testing is complete early next year.
