Man standing along highway struck and killed by van

LEWIS COUNTY, MO. -- One person was killed and another seriously injured in a crash late Monday night on Highway 6 just west of Lewistown.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cortez Robinson, 27, of Kirksville, was standing in the roadway along side a vehicle which was parked westbound, partially in the road, with its hazard lights flashing.

The Patrol says Robinson was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by Jessica Murphy, 19, of La Belle, Mo. Murphy’s vehicle then struck the stopped car which hit the person standing in front of it. Stephanie Toolate, 25, of Kirksville was seriously injured and taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois where she is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, Jessica Murphy, was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy for treatment of injuries.
