ADAIR COUNTY, MO. -- A 12 member jury has awarded the largest damage claim ever in Adair County.

Ann Ferguson, of Greencastle, Mo., had filed suit against the Missouri Department of Transportation and one of its employees, in connection with a crash that occurred in July of 2008.

In the crash, Ferguson was driving on Route O near Novinger, when her vehicle struck a MoDOT truck from behind. The MoDOT truck had been carrying a large log, which went through the windshield of Ferguson’s vehicle, seriously injuring her and killing a passenger, 10-year-old Allison Pfeiffer, of Greencastle. Another passenger, Ferguson's son Shane, who was 8 at the time, was also injured in the crash.

The jury found Ferguson to be 25% at fault in the incident, while finding MoDOT and it's employee, 75% at fault. The jury awarded Ferguson $14.6 million in damages.

Ferguson was represented in the case by Brad Kuhlman of Kansas City, A.W. Smith of Columbia and Jay Benson of Kirksville.
