KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Many people are racing to gas stations and grocery stores across the Heartland for a chance to become a millionaire.

This Wednesday night's Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $500 million.

At the Kirksville Hy-Vee, they have seen an increase in the number of people buying Powerball tickets, including first-timers who have never bought a ticket.

Store associates say they are expecting more people to come in to buy tickets.

"A lot of people have said they wanted to get a ticket only for the big Jackpot about 100 million or over. Everyone wants a chance at their dreams," said Kirksville Hy-Vee Customer Service Manager Mark Fanning.

During a normal week, the Kirksville Hy-Vee sells anywhere from 800 to 1,000 Powerball tickets.

You can watch to see if you have the winning Powerball numbers during Wednesday night's drawing on KTVO ABC right before our ten o'clock newscast.
