KIRKSVILLE, MO -- It's the holiday season and the Kirksville Police Department is reminding you to protect your property.

In recent years the department has seen an influx of property crimes during the holidays, and they're informing you how to keep your property safe.

"Just make sure your residence is secure," Detective Jeremy Cordray tells us. "Make sure that the windows are locked and that there is a dead bolt."

Detective Cordray also urge that you take pictures of your valuables, cut the hedges and trees around your home, and have a neighbor of friend check on the residence.

Cordray goes on to say, "Sometimes it's the security lighting, maybe having motion light in some of those darker areas or just having an outside light that does work."

This year the department has been going door to door in the neighborhoods targeted last year. They advise if you see suspicious activity don't hesitate to call police.
