KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- The Kirksville VFW Lady Auxiliary Post 2508 sold pies for veterans.

Auxiliary Treasurer Dixie Welte said veterans are the heart of America and the VFW is doing what it can by selling pies to raise money.

“The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW is working in conjunction with Hy-Vee to sell apple pies,” Welte said. “A percentage of the apple pies sold will go to the Ladies Auxiliary to buy Christmas gifts for the veterans in the local nursing homes here.”

The VFW sold the pies for $10 until 10 p.m. Friday night.

Hy-Vee store director Jeff Suchomel said the store will be serving veterans free breakfast on Monday Nov. 12, starting at 6 a.m.
