NEAR ATLANTA, MO. -- Thursday morning at the US 63 and Route M intersection, the Missouri Department of Transportation began making some safety improvements.

MoDOT has added signs and rumble strips along Route M before you arrive at the intersection. Stop sign flashers have also been added.

Many crashes have occurred on Highway 63 from motorists not stopping at stop signs, or failing to yield to on coming traffic.

MoDOT is also making improvements at Route K at Cairo, Route B at Clark and at Hinton Road just north of Columbia.

Over the last four years, 66 crashes have occurred among these four intersections, resulting in 6 fatalities. Of those fatalities, four involved occupants not wearing a seatbelt.

The improved safety improvements at all four intersections should be done by mid-December.
