Howard Smith, 36, of Edina, Mo.
KNOX COUNTY, MO. -- A former Knox County Sheriff's deputy, already facing two felony charges, has now been hit with an additional charge.
Howard Smith, 36, of Edina, Mo. had already been charged with stealing and receiving stolen property, now a third charge has been added. Smith is charged with resisting arrest.
Smith is being held in the Lewis County Jail. His bond has been increased to $15,000.
November 13 is the date for Smith's next court appearance.
Court papers state a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper went to Smith's residence to take him into custody on the felony warrants. Smith allegedly told the trooper he needed to get a jacket. When Smith went into the house, authorities say he ran out a door on the opposite end of the house, through a grassy field and into a wooded area, before finally turning himself in.
