Former deputy sheriff charged with stealing

KNOX COUNTY, MO. -- A former Heartland law enforcement officer is facing charges of his own.
  
Howard Smith, 36, of Edina, is charged with felony counts of stealing and receiving stolen property. Smith is a former Knox County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to court papers, Smith is accused of taking items from the Knox County Sheriff's Office and selling them on Ebay. Among the items taken was a police issue radio, valued at over $500.
    
The case against Howard Smith is being handled by the Missouri Attorney General's Office.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Knox County Associate Circuit Court. He is currently being held in the Lewis County Jail under $10,000 bond.
