MILAN, MO -- Over the next few years there is expected to be a shortage of employees in the healthcare industry.

To help combat the situation, the Sullivan County Memorial Hospital hosted their annual Health Care Career Day at Milan High School in hopes of getting students minds on a career in health care.

Nine area schools were in attendance today to hear speakers from over 25 colleges and professionals health care fields

“This is great that they can actually see professionals in the specific categories that they are interested in. It means more to them actually seeing a real doctor and there are so many different avenues to take in the health field that they learn a lot,” Milan High School Counselor Melissa VanDusseldorp said.

During the session students received a quick overview of the profession and were then able to ask questions. Tuesday’s event also reminded students that taking more advanced classes now and planning early can help them down the road.
