KIRKSVILLE, MO -- A northeast Missouri teen, facing numerous felony charges in connection with a shooting in Kirksville, has entered a guilty plea.

Tyler Treece, 18, of Glenwood, Mo. entered the plea Monday morning in Adair County Circuit Court.

In November of last year, police were called to a report of a shooting on Roselene Drive.

According to court documents, witnesses said that the 14-year-old victim was in a car with another person and an infant. Treece had approached the vehicle, pulled a gun from his pants and pointed it at the victim.. Treece allegedly told the victim the gun was unloaded, thats when witnesses say Treece pulled the trigger.

Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson said following Monday's court hearing that there are times when a guilty plea is best for all involved.

"The nicest thing about a guilty plea is not making the victim and other individuals having to go up and relive the situation. We can get that closure and moving faster and getting things taken care of," Wilson said.

Treece, who was originally charged with five felony charges, entered the guilty plea to charges of first degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon by shooting at a vehicle.

Treece is scheduled for sentencing on December 4. He could be sentenced up to ten years to life on the charges.
