KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- During Wednesday night Kirksville R-III School Board meeting, Superintendent Patrick Williams spoke with the school board, administrators and teachers about the Missouri School Improvement Program, or MSIP V.
It’s the new accountability system schools will go under in a couple of years.
Williams said he wants the district to focus on reading programs and preparing students for college.
He said MSIP IV had 14 standards and MSIP V has five.
Sue Barrett Director of Food Services spoke during the meeting about the Back Pack Buddies program.
She said it is a program with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri where they give food to students who don't have anything to eat during the weekend.
She said they give out about 96 backpacks a week.
In the bookpack they give the student enough cereal, soup, fruit and fruit snacks for the weekend.
During the meeting, the board approved buying Ray Miller Elementary seven new lunch tables.
According to the assistant superintendent they haven't been replaced since around 1971.
The lunch tables will be accessible for handicapped children as well.
They also approved purchasing a new utility vehicle.
Superintendent Williams said the old pick up truck was not repairable, and currently have been using a loaner.
The booster club has donated $5,000 to help the district purchase the truck, so it will cost the district around $8,000.
The district also voted to expand the Early Childhood Center bus route.
