KIRKSVILLE, MO -- The Missouri Department of Conservation is helping children get a better understanding of some cold blooded animals.

The organization held a "Reptiles Rock" session at the northeast regional office in Kirksville Wednesday.

Kids got to learn about turtles, snakes, and lizards and how they adapt to their habitats and the way of living out in the wild.

This is all part of the homeschool program the Missouri Department of Conservation does to help those students the opportunity to get a science level outside of the home.

"The biggest thing is we want to help provide them that connection with nature and keep them connected with it. With the parents in the class with them that provides a mentoring opportunity for parents to see what we are doing, and they can take it home and continue learning and being interested in science," said Amanda Moore of the Missouri Departement of Conservation.

The program has two sessions every month with a different subject every time.
