KIRKSVILLE, MO. -- Not only is Thursday senior night for a few players for the Kirksville volleyball team, but it is also a day the community can come out and support the team for breast cancer awareness.

The team will host their Spike Down Cancer event on Thurs, Oct. 11.

The team wanted to bring more breast cancer awareness to the Kirksville community due to a coach's wife being diagnosed with cancer.

This is the second year of the event, and just like last year, they expect the night to be pretty emotional.

"Well, we're all girls so there was a lot of tears and emotions going on, but it was a great response to the Kirksville community. "It really helped and the coaches really appreciate our efforts," said senior Kirksville volleyball player Brett Marek.

The deadline to buy shirts to help the cause has already passed, but during the game you can still help as there will be a donation jar and a bake sale on hand.

The team will also be wearing pink jerseys as apart of the night.

Here's the link the our full interivew with Brett Marek on Good Morning Heartland about the event.
