FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Fairfield residents will see a public measure on their ballot this November regarding the new pool and rec center.

If passed, residents of Fairfield will pay $39 per every $100,000 of property value to help build a new pool and rec center for the community. The measure will be presented on the ballot as "Public Measure A" and residents will have the option of voting yes or no. The city hopes the project will be complete in the next few years.

Tuesday night, the Fairfield City Council and the Rec Center Task Force will hold a public forum for anyone with questions about the project, or for anyone just wanting to know more. There will be a question and answer session, as Fairfield officials realize there are some common questions generating in the public.

"Biggest question is the gymnasium - are we going to be tearing down the old Roosevelt building? We are not, it's going to be in addition to the Roosevelt facility. That's a gym with basketball hoops and other things and this is, I would call a fitness center, where I'm currently located," said Derik Wulfekuhle, Director of Fairfield Parks and Recreation. "Another big question is how much this is going to cost me, it's going to cost $39 per $100,000 of home property value. So 39 cents per $1,000."

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First National Bank in Fairfield. Wulfekuhle said the city and the task force is planning to hold several more meetings before the measure comes to vote in November.
