KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Stefani Lorton gave blood every 56 days.

On Monday, heartland citizens kept her memory alive by giving blood at the 8th annual Stefani Lorton Memorial Blood Drive.

In 2005, 19-year-old Stefani Lorton died in a car crash.

Stefani dedicated her life to giving back even in her death.

“I knew she wanted to be an organ donor,” Karen Lorton, Stefani’s mother, said. “She received I don’t know how many units of blood to keep her organs viable so (her organs). Stefani always said if you can give, you should.”

The blood drive collected 41 pints of blood, exceeding the goal of 30.

Each blood donation can help save up to three lives, so more than 120 patients can benefit from the generosity of the donors who came out to Monday's drive.

During the blood drive the family gave door prizes, t-shirts and supplied food and drinks to those who gave blood.
