KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Hundreds of mothers and their sons came out to the Truman State University Farm and Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center grounds on Thursday for the annual Mother-Son Stampede.

From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., young boys were able to run around and play.

Air Evac was there and showed the children the medical helicopter.

There was a bounce house, and kids were able to ride a train as well as pick pumpkins and paint them.

There was a long line for kids to do archery, and a lot of the boys were extremely focused when shooting the arrow.

There was also a horse on hand, and kids were even going around an obstacle course.

They had to run over some hay, cones and even do push ups.

And, for those who love to hunt, they had BB guns for kids to practice their shooting.

Moms and their sons gathered around the bonfire and made s'mores.

Heartland Task Force President Matthew Holt said they do this as a family strengthening event and to raise drug and alcohol awareness and prevention.
