KIRKSVILLE, MO, -- The Truman State University's Department of nursing got a huge boost for educational opportunities in the future.
Governor Jay Nixon was on campus Thursday to meet with the nursing school and announce a grant of $150,000.
The grant was part of the nearly $1 million in grants to educate additional nurses at college and universities across the state made available through the Governor's Caring for Missourians initiative.
The grant will graduate 10-15 additional nursing students among other things.
The money will help launch three foundational courses online to assist students in transferring to the accelerated degree program. The department will also expand clinical sites and partnerships and add clinical and adjunct faculty members," said Gov. Nixon.
The Caring for Missourians initiative was launched by Gov. Nixon is 2009 as a strategic plan to increase the number of nurses, physicians, dentists and other health professionals being educated at Missouri’s public colleges and universities.
