MACON, MO -- A former fire chief's home goes up in flames during an early morning fire in Macon.

The call came in early Thursday morning reporting a structure fire on Laura Lane.

When fire crews got to the scene, the home was completely engulfed in flames.

The home was occupied by Dave and Kathy Snarr, along with two other family members. Dave is the retired fire chief of Macon.

The couple woke up in the middle of the night when their power started flickering.

As they walked toward the kitchen to check on an oxygen machine, they smelled smoke and heard glass breaking, realizing the side of the house was already engulfed in flames.

The couple was able to get everyone out safely and across the street to a neighbor’s house.

The Snarrs said they are grateful for their family and friends during the situation and also the American Red Cross for helping out.

The house is considered a complete loss. A fund has been set up to help the Snarr family. Donations can be left at Compton’s in Macon.
