CENTERVILLE, IOWA -- The City of Centerville is considering a controversial street project, and city leaders are asking for residents' feedback.

The city council and mayor are considering putting down new pavement on E. and W. State streets, and N. 10th street.

Centerville Mayor Jim Senior said the project will cost a total of $4.3 million.  75 percent of the funds will come from federal and state grants. Residents living on the streets being paved or within 200 feet of them, will have to pick up the rest of the tab, which will be included in their property taxes for the next 10 to 15 years. That's if the project moves forward.

The city is hosting a public hearing on Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. 

"During that public hearing, we will be accepting any kind of comments form the people, mostly from the people that live on the streets that are going to be accessed," said Jim Senior, Mayor of Centerville.

The project is expected to cost a single household between $233 and $450 dollars per year.
