MACON, MO -- After nearly two years of work, a local non profit gets to celebrate a new beginning.
R.A..I.L., which stands for rural advocates for independent living in Macon celebrated their open house Saturday as they showcased their new, in-home support care unit for disabled people of all ages.
The two story house was gutted and remodeled after staff decided they needed to construct a facility that people with disabilities could live in.
The executive director feels this home will uplift the community and the people the home will serve.
"A boost to the economy in this area, and we feel it shows people just because you have a disability doesn't mean you can't have a nice accessible home," said R.A.I.L. Executive Director, Theresa Myers.
A few of the features of the home include an elevator, and an wet shower.
The home will be able to house three people, but officials say they are still collecting applications for the home.
Residents should be moved-in by the first of October.
