OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Saturday was the second day of the first ever Labor Day Festival in Ottumwa at the Jimmy Jones Shelter at the Ottumwa Park.
It is being presented by the UFCW Local 230 and the Southern Iowa Labor Council.
The festival started Friday and runs through Monday.
Each day there will be a carnival and petting zoo starting at noon as well as live musical entertainment throughout the day.
Saturday at 7 pm there will be the Young and Wild Rodeo and Jason Brown will be performing at 9 pm as the featured musical artist.
Carnival staff said they are happy with the turnout so far and are looking forward to the rest of the weekend’s events.
“Tomorrow we have local bands and more concerts, we have a raffle drawing, there's going to be a free lunch from noon to two and it’s just going to be a really great thing. It's only $15 -- gets you rides, everything,” said Nanette Sullivan, UFCW.
Sullivan added that the UFCW hopes for a great turnout this year so they can make the Labor Day Festival an annual event, as well as making it free of cost.
