FAIRFIELD, IOWA -- Fairfield residents will be able to vote to approve plans for a new city rec center in November.

The project consists of a new outdoor pool, to be built off Fillmore Street outside of town, and adding a gymnasium to the existing Roosevelt Recreation Center.

An architect has already been hired, and if everything goes as planned, the project will be completed in 2014.

"The project right now is in the stages of being voted on in November for the gymnasium and the outdoor pool," said Derik Wulfekuhle, Director of Fairfield Parks and Recreation. "So right now we're going to gain support for a yes vote in November."

The city of Fairfield said this project ties in nicely with their Blue Zones initiative and will go a long way towards reaching the city's goal of providing healthy opportunities for its residents.

Fairfield's Blue Zones site visit is scheduled for September 6.
