KIRKSVILLE, MO -- Kirksville elected officials and members of boards and commissions were all on hand Wednesday afternoon to find more on how to better use the Missouri Sunshine Law

The Missouri Attorney's General Office held a free workshop Wednesday pertaining to the law. The workshop is an on-going effort to provide government officials with the support they need to bring transparency and fairness to all aspects of government.

For local officials one goal of the workshop is to make sure they come away with what good the law can provide.

"Look at it as their opportunity for the public to see the good job their doing," said Public Education Director of the State of Missouri Attorney's General's Office Tom Durkin. "If they can carry that philosophy with them when they walk out the door, I think the compliance of the sunshine law will increase astronomically." 

 Durkin understands the Sunshine Law has many different layers and levels to it, and can be a struggle to understand but doesn't such employees to look at the law as a means to close off information.
