SULLIVAN COUNTY, MO -- There have been several fires that police and fire officials in Sullivan County are calling suspicious.

At around 4 a.m. Saturday morning, fire crews responded to three hay bales fires south of Green City.

Then at around 8 a.m., fire crews were once again called to two other hay bale fires near Green Castle.

When everything was said and done, about 200 bales of hay and a trailer were damaged.

Officials said they believe this was an arson.

"These hay piles don't catch fire by themselves," said firefighter Tad Dennis. "The trailer had no electricity or gas. That would have not caught on fire by itself. Someone has lit these fires."

Damages are estimated to be anywhere from $40,000-50,000.

Fire officials are warning farmers to keep hay bales apart.

If you have any information regarding these fires, you're asked to call your local law enforcement.
