KIRKSVILLE -- If you want to help the Adair County Humane Society, but don't have a lot of money to donate here's your chance to give $10,000.

Ameren Missouri is having a statewide campaign to recognize nonprofit organizations that make a difference in the community.

And, one of the 10 finalist is Jackie Eaton, the Director and Board Treasurer of the Adair County Humane Society.

Eaton, the only finalist from a rural community, has been the director of Adair County Humane Society for 30 years.

All of the money the shelter collects from donations and memberships goes to helping the animals.

She said it's the only animal organization of the 10 finalist, and the humane society needs the money to do some work at the shelter to make the animals more comfortable.

“$10,000 would help us conserve a lot of energy that we use at the shelter. We could do some air conditioning, we could do some carpentry work that would help us on our heating,” Eaton said. “And, we would hope that with this money we could do the things we’ve been wanting to do because all our donations go directly to working with the animals.”

To vote you must be at least 18 years old. You can vote once a day until August 31,2012.

The winners will be announced after September 10.

You can vote for Jackie Eaton and the Adair County Humane Society here.
